Painting The Town

This extraordinary project commenced 40 years ago as part of my MA research at the Royal College of Art 1975-78 where I was postgraduate student in the painting school. Documented with my friend photographer Doug Sarget we orginally assembled an exhibition intended for the RCA and Bury Art Gallery. Remarkably between 1977 and 1986 with modest initial support from the Arts Council, the exhibition went on an extensive tour of the UK and later with the British Council it also visited thirty countries. Associated with the research were a number of books, contributions to two major international exhibitions, and finally the UK Panels were displayed and archived at the Tate Gallery.
