Health Design

Art practitioner with over twenty years experience in Medical Architecture he recently published book Art and Nature; Healing Health Design for Health in the UK & Japan. He coordinated the architecture programme for "Japan 2001". and brought together the Japan Institute of Healthcare Architects JIHA and Architects for Health for the "Recent Health Care Architecture in Japan" RIBA Symposium. With his guidance AfH reciprocated with a study tour to Tokyo in 2005.

International Keynote speaker at the inaugural conference for the "Forum for Healing Environments" and produced Healing Art UK exhibition for "Hospex 2002" at the Big Sight, Tokyo. He launched the touring exhibition "Nature of Healing Art" in the UK & Japan" in June 2003. A regular contributor to HD (Hospital Development), he recently submitted a field study on "Healing Environments" for the "Global hospitals in the year 2050" report to Japanese Government. In October 2005 he curated with the Building Centre Trust Capital Health London's New Health Care Estate exhibition at the New London Architecture Centre.

He established MARU Art Projects, (Medical Architecture Research Unit.) and after became a founding director of Maap (Medical Architecture and Art Projects.)  In 2007 worked with Maap on proposals to ensure the integration of art on the successful PFI bid.for the redevelopment at St Luke's Middlesbrough.

Produced proposals for art orientation talks for the Japan-UK150 celebration and has produced book Project Japan  Architecture and Art Media | Edo to Now. to be published by Images in 2009.

An art practitioner with a special interest in Japan he was architectural coordinated for Japan 2001. In 1995-96 was awarded The Japan Foundation, Art Fellowship and in 1998 received a GB Sasakawa Foundation bursary to explore ways artist & designers were contributing towards health care in Japan. In 1998 he introduced Tadao Ando to the Arups team which won the competition for the Manchester Piccadilly Gardens regeneration, the first major building in the UK by a Japanese Architect. . has been the chair person of Art & Architecture since 1994.He Graduated from the Royal College of Art Painting School 1978
